Description

The debates about sociobiology (SB) have been featured widely in both the scientific and the popular media since the 1970s. Since they carried ‘ideological burdens’ (e.g. national histories), the mass media coverage about SB and related subjects reveals the cultural contexts of popular science in different countries. My paper presents quantitative findings from a broader study of the media coverage of SB with respect to the German context. The international scientific and the German print media discussions are compared in terms of time lags, content and contextual connections and contrasted with findings from the UK.
