The College will be holding its third Public Open Day on Saturday 15 September 2007 from 11am-4pm. This will also incorporate their participation in Open House London. The emphasis on the day is on fun and learning. Visitors will be able to hear talks from experts on alcohol, how climate change can affect our health and the College’s medicinal garden. Through hands-on activities – from practicing resuscitation to taking blood pressure and tours of our history, architecture and garden – the Open Day will provide members of the public with the opportunity to learn about the work that physicians do, how they are trained and the role of the College. Admission is free. Information sessions on “Medical education and training – from student to consultant” will provide young people considering a career in healthcare with the opportunity to discuss what it is like to be a medical student, the expectations of medical schools, postgraduate training and continuing professional development. Medical equipment, which has been used over the last 500 years, will also be on display in the College. Significant figures from the College’s past will be present to inform visitors about the history of the College and the role of physicians through the years. A swing band will entertain visitors in the College garden where tours will also be held for people wishing to learn more about medicinal plants.
