Description

A Wellcome Library tour

A pioneering businessman, voracious collector and benevolent philanthropist, Sir Henry Wellcome was one of the most fascinating – yet undervalued – figures of the late nineteenth and early 20th centuries.

Using examples from Wellcome’s personal papers and the Library based on his collection, we’ll examine the life of a man born in the Wild West of America who died a part of the British establishment: how his modern marketing techniques expanded his pharmaceutical business into a multinational company and how his personal profits amassed an astonishing collection of items relating to the history of medicine from around the world.
