Description
After a gap, for the passing visit of the ISE meeting in Edinburgh in 2006, the annual joint RSC / SCI Electrochem meeting returns in 2007 with a meeting held at Imperial College London. This is a timely visit as it is the centenary year of the College, it also reflects the concentration of electrochemists (of all flavours) at Imperial.
The chairs of the local organising committee Danny O’Hare and Martyn Boutelle of the Department of Bioengineering have taken the opportunity to change the format of the meeting. This is in response to concerns about the cost of bringing whole research groups to a long meeting, and to raise the international footprint of the meeting.
New format
The meeting will run over two full days – Mon 3rd and Tues 4th September 2007. The science will be organised each day into three international quality themed sessions. Each session will begin with an invited plenary lecture to set the theme. Confirmed plenary speakers include: Prof Richard Compton (Oxford), Prof R Mark Wightman (UNC), Prof Yuri Korchev (Imperial). It will then include a mix of selected talks and invited mini-keynote talks that explore key aspects of the theme.
Faraday Medal Lecture
The highlight of the first day will be the RSC Faraday Lecture. This year this will be given on the Bioelectrochemistry theme by Professor Christian Amatore from Paris.
Poster session
Posters from postgraduate students / PDRAs will be a strong part of the meeting. All posters will be up in the coffee / trade show areas throughout the meeting. On Monday evening after the Faraday lecture there will be a formal poster session with an international jury to select prizewinners. The session will then finish with and extended social evening.
