Description
Abstract: Let J be a complex structure on an open set of R^4^ or S^4^, which is compatible with the standard conformal structure. The graph of J can be interpreted as a hypersurface of the twistor space CP^3^ of S^4^. We shall use this correspondence to show that most algebraic orthogonal complex structures J are defined on S^4^ minus at least a 3-dimensional subset K. A classification of quadrics under the action of the conformal group leads to examples in which K is a solid torus, or one pinched at two points. This is joint work with Jeff Viaclovsky.
