Description

Asthma and Allergy- from mechanisms to biomarkers and therapeutic targets: An international symposium at Guy’s Campus, King’s College London

The MRC-Asthma UK Centre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma was created in 2005 to advance understanding of allergic mechanisms of asthma to inform the development of new, effective and targeted treatments. This exciting initiative is funded through a partnership between the Medical Research Council, Asthma UK, King’s College London, Imperial College London and associated NHS Trusts. The Centre is hosting a one day symposium entitled: Asthma and Allergy – from mechanisms to biomarkers and therapeutic targets, on Wednesday, September 19th 2007 at King’s College London, Guy’s Campus. International experts will be presenting their research in major areas of great topical interest: IgE Structure, signalling and Th2 cytokine regulation; Infections, leukocyte recruitment and allergic inflammation; Airway Structure in asthma; and Immunomodulation within the context of potential therapeutic opportunities. The conference will be of interest to basic and clinical scientists, clinicians and industry experts in asthma, allergy and respiratory science.

In addition to senior investigators from the Centre, external scientific opinion leaders in asthma and allergy will present their latest research findings. External speakers will include Don MacGlashan (USA), Dale Umetsu (USA), Rudolf Valenta (Austria), and Stephen Holgate (UK).
