Description

Reducing and Managing Waste in the Food Industry: Day Networking Event

The Food Industry Sustainability Strategy lays down new challenges for the food industry, not least in the waste area where it calls for a 15-20% reduction in the food manufacturing industry’s own wastes by 2010 along with commitments from the whole industry to contribute to packaging and product design and recycling. The FISS envisages widespread adoption of best practice for the Food and Drink Industry to achieve these goals. This workshop is therefore designed to showcase the best practice techniques and technologies available to help companies of whatever size both reduce the quantity of waste produced as well as recover value from waste that does arise. It will therefore offer businesses the potential to save on bottom line costs whilst improving environmental performance.

Who should attend?
Technical Managers/Directors, Operational Managers/Directors from the Food and Drink Industry who want to reduce their food and other waste during the production cycle and, save money on their bottom lines. It will also be of interest to Senior Researchers from research institutions involved in the development of novel technologies in this area.

Benefits of attending
> EVALUATE current best practice techniques to minimise waste throughout the supply chain
> HIGHLIGHT using case study examples how particular technologies and techniques have been applied within companies to help increase profit margins
> FOCUS ON emerging technologies to recover waste including anaerobic digestion and waste-to-energy
> PROVIDE important networking opportunities for companies including best practice organisations in the field
