DESCRIPTION:This DTI Global Watch Mission reviewed Nanomedicine technologie
s for application in Diagnostics and Pharma and Healthcare applications wit
h specific focus on Diagnostics\, Drug discovery & delivery and Medical dev
ices in Japan. Japan has a global lead on nanotechnologies based in the ele
ctronics sector and are globally leading in the provision of technology pla
tforms which will have impact on Nanomedicine. This is a different\, but sy
nergistic\, approach compared to the UK which the mission sought to underst
and in more detail by visiting key clusters in Tokyo and Osaka. \n\nThe key
objective was to assess research and technology that would help underpin t
he UK’s ability to commercialize and manufacture nanomedicine applications.
A further objective was to evaluate potential instrumentation synergies\,
complementary with UK strengths in Pharma & Biotech sectors. The mission al
so focused on the Japanese approach to convergence of nanotechnologies and
healthcare. \n\nOther speakers include: \n> Dr Giles Sanders\, Senior Consu
 ltant\, TTP\n> Professor John Ryan\, Bionanotechnology IRC Director\, Unive
rsity of Oxford\n> Stephen Dennison\, Project Manager\, UK MNT Network
