DESCRIPTION:The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is one of the largest experimen
ts ever built\, involving thousands of people\, billions of pounds and deca
des of work. Its aim is to recreate the conditions that existed a billionth
of a second after the Big Bang and to understand how and why the Universe
 exists as it does.
\n
\nBased at CERN on the Franco-Swiss border\, the mai
n structure of the LHC is a 27km ring buried deep underground. At its heart
\, particles hurtle around the ring at almost the speed of light.
\n
\nThis
exhibition\, in the Antenna science news gallery\, will feature a combinat
ion of objects\, video\, images and interactives and aims to increase our u
nderstanding of energy\, matter\, space and time. Exhibition sponsored by P
article Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC).
