    Musings on London science.

    • Hand-drawn science maps: Redux

      Wednesday, 10 Sep 2008 - 10:31 UTC

Back in July, we had a little cartographic meme going. I challenged you all to draw maps of your institutions and surrounding areas. So far, we’ve had hand-drawn charts of the Nature London offices, Toronto Discovery District, London’s NIMR, and, erm, Cromer.

To kick things off again, Sid Rodriques, whose name I always spell incorrectly, just to wind him up, has produced this etching of the area around LGC in Teddington, London. Apologies for the shaky photography.

Please send me your own hand-drawn maps of your local area. If you have a blog, feel free to post there, but make sure you use the tag sciencemap.

That arrow in the bottom right that says “Kingston, good shops” could also say “and Maxine’s house”. I live just off the Richmond Road (labelled).

Keira Knightley’s washing line! The fish slap dance! Aha video! This is full of interesting landmarks!

My daughter nearly went to that school when she saw from a photo that Keira had left just the year before. She changed her mind, though. (The school isn’t that great but the washing line, now…)

Credit should go to the lovely Randall Munroe of XKCD fame for that. (and yes, I think his choice of file number was delierate…)

Yes, Sid, I live in the opposite direction to the posh shops. (It was when I saw the then-being-excavated-space-for John Lewis that I said “that town is for me”.)
