Description
Periodontal disease has been associated with diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, adverse pregnancy outcomes, respiratory disorders, and cancer. The evidence for these associations varies in strength with the most convincing studies relating periodontal disease to diabetes. A critical assessment of these studies will be presented with an analysis of the state of the evidence for causality. The clinical implications of these relationships, using the concept of Equipoise, will also be discussed.
