Description
The Harvard Stem Cell Institute is embarking on an ambitious expansion of its focus in Parkinson’s Disease, with particular emphasis on the “molecular biography” of the substantia nigra/SNc/PD dopaminergic neuron and related monoaminergic classes. The combination of cell intrinsic transcriptional controls and cell extrinsic signals guide the development of these neurons, and might be applied for disease prevention, neuronal support, or cellular repair.
The goal of this program is to harness the scientific and creative energies of internationally-preeminent scientists in the fields of SNc neuron development and repair. Through focused discourse and debate, the outcome of this program will be a world-class strategy targeted to advancing stem cell research for better understanding of, and therapies for, Parkinson’s Disease.
