    • New teaching jobs at Harvard

For those out there interested in a career in teaching after your PhD, here’s a new program for you. According to Science, Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences recently announced that it will hire up to 20 new PhDs to teach undergraduate courses. It basically sounds like a teaching postdoc, but with full benefits. Each position would only be for a year, with the possibility of extending to a second year. These fellows would be expected to take on 70 percent of the teaching load of a faculty member.

These positions could provide a temporary place to park until the job market opens up a bit.

Has anyone heard of other similar new programs?

Oooh. Not really interested in getting involved in the horrors of a US work permit (and I assume it’s not for foreigners anyway), but that sounds very interesting and also necessary. So many people have to teach and hate it, and others want to teach and can’t find teaching-only spots. Combing the two needs just makes so much sense.

Eva, getting a US work permit might not be as difficult as you think. Places like Harvard are very used to bringing in foreigners. If you are interested, you should look into it!

I agree with you, we definitely need more teaching-only programs.
