We are running an evening of speakers and discussion on Thursday 25 June at the Institute of Physics, central London, 6pm – 8.30pm (approx). There are some spaces left – men and women v welcome, but you have to book in advance (see end of this post). Here’s a bit more info:

Women in Science, Engineering and Technology – and the recession
Is gender equality key to recovery?

Join us to explore the impact of the recession on women in SET. We’ll look at questions like what is the role of SET in economic recovery? Does equality become a luxury in a recession? And what will be the place of SET women in the new employmnet landscape that emerges?

We have a fantastic line up of speakers. Ruth Sunderland is chair – she is Business Editor at the Observer and has been writing a lot about the recession. Anne Pettifor is speaking – she is an expert commentator and campaigner on financial systems, author of the Green New Deal and she blogs at Debtonation (this is really worth checking out if you don’t know it).

Other speakers are Professor Douglas Kell, Chief Executive of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (his blog is here); Mandy Clarke (Halcrow Ltd); Professor Ursula Martin (Queen Mary University of London) and Annette Williams (Director of UKRC)

If you are not yet tempted, there’s refreshments and networking before and after. We are upstairs at the Institute of Physics, a room with a balcony, so if the weather is nice we can be outside a bit.

But it is a small event: places are limited and prior booking is essential. There are a few spaces left. If you want one, email info@ukrc4setwomen.org or by telephone on 01274 436485.
