Corie: “What should be the next local hub? We already have votes for NYC and SF Bay.”
I am strongly for SF Bay Area, I mean the 2 strongest biotech center in the U.S. is California and Boston. And as I know the 3 is North Carolina, Wake Forrest et al.
I am interested in launching the New Orleans local hub (starting my postdoc there) and I think it would be also good for NN to concentrate on smaller hubs too with a threshold size of scientists in order to get the proper balance here on NN. What is the estimated threshold size that is needed to launch a local hub?
And yes, Cambridge, UK would also be a good choice and San Diego, South Calif too with La Jolla, C.I.T. et cetera.
And Biopolis too in Singapore.
Many many ways to locally expand.
What about Australia, Israel, Bangalore, China, Germany, South Sweden also strong countries and areas in life sciences?

Sorry for my awful grammar, I am in a big rush now. :)

I have been very inactive on Nature network and thats nostly because I have generally continued to blog at my wordpress blog.
My comments below are based entirely on the very positive experience I have had using wordpress.1)Email or other forms of notification when comments are received for a blog post
.
2)Trackbacks- if other people link to an article on my blog , it would be nice to get an email about it3) Metrics- its nice to know which posts of mine are more viewed than the others

Corie,
I didn’t see the (very) big red button on the right. My attention was focussed on the left side of the screen. May be this button should be renamed to “Send an invite to join this group”.Thanks a lot.

Hari, thanks for your very good comments. We’ve been updating our blog system. We can now support #1. The other two items on your list are in the pipeline. In fact, we recently launched the mini-project to really beef up our blogging platform, since we realize that we are competing with other commercially available systems. Ours should be up and running in a few months, so please stay tuned and keep checking back.

Attila,
I do believe smaller town could be a good target for NN as you said New Orleans…small town with close scientific community…with greater net work…works fine with me… -
I’d like to vote for Sydney, Stralya, as a hub.
Hey, I’m here. Who else do you need ? ;)

Batch invites would definitely be a plus. Right now you have to invite each person one by one.

Hi Corie,
Can I post an event which does not take place in Boston or London / US or UL ? The combo only displayed those only two choices ?Pierre

Hi Pierre,
We designed the events listings to be only local in scope…specific to the city hubs on NN. You can advertise events on your group’s notice board. Other group admins have done this for events outside of Boston/London. Hope this helps…
