      There is a school of thought that currently argues the UK is not valuing manufacturing as much as it should, that having stopped “making stuffs” in order to focus on finance and services made the UK more likely to suffer from spells of stormy financial climate.

      That snippet above is all the more surprising that the rest of the speech emphasises on R&D’s predominant role for the national economy; not any kind of R&D: biotech and new energy sources, that is, STUFF-based economy, hurray!!:)

      (i wonder what kind of speech M. would deliver to the financial sector though…“we still love you, stuff-based economy is so 20th century”?)
