As many of you are aware the final UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) results were published just before chritmas. The RAE is to be replaced with the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and HEFCE are doing a number of pilot studies at the moment with the results at the end of the summer if I am correct (it has been moved back and I can’t remeber the new date).

Now seems the perfect time to talk about how/ or should research be assessed.
