The Innovation, Universities, Science and Skills Committee has decided to hold an inquiry into students and universities. This will include admissions, the balance between teaching and research, degree completion and classification and mechanisms of student support and engagement. The Committee invites evidence on some of the following issues (more comprehensive list on their website ):
- the effectiveness of the process for admission to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including A-levels, Advanced Diplomas, apprenticeships and university entrance tests
- the UK’s ability to meet government targets for Higher Education participation and the relevance of these targets
- the implementation and success of widening participation initiatives such as Compact agreements, and the impact of the current funding regime on these objectives
- the role of the Government in developing and promoting fair access and admissions policies for the UK Higher Education sector
The closing date is Thursday December 11th. For more information click here

Why “evid*a*nce”?
-
that would be my horrible spelling combined with (for some reason) the automatic spell checker not working…
Though maybe this way it will catch peoples attention and people will go and look at the site or at least comment – I do get a bit lonely on this forum.

all fixed now. Thanks.

Thanks, Branwen. I was thinking it is a clever acronym and was trying to work it out!
I’m another lonely forum poster. Posts about “core science” matters are less likely to get comments than posts about dogs, religion, rock bands etc, it seems in the blogosphere! Nevertheless, I bet plenty of people read the posts – lack of comments is not indicative of lack of readers – and I have got posts in this forum automatically going through to the Friendfeed science online group (you are welcome to join it if you haven’t already) for a bit more “reach”.
