The UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology is trying to consult widely on the DIUS paper. Our aim is to make sure that issues of gender equality are part of the government’s vision for science and society. Comments from men and women, scientists, technicians, researchers, policy makers, general public – all welcome.
Consultation day event in London: A Vision for Science and Society, 30 September
On line questionnaire: ensuring gender issues are part of the government’s vision
Consultation in Second Life: 22 September, 7-8pm
There is an optional introductory session on Monday 15 September, also at 7pm. Prior booking for 2nd Life event essential. Call Ruth Wilson on 01274 436132 for more information. -
Who has done the questionnaire? What did you think of it? Did you manage to trawl through the 70-odd questions, which all basically say the same thing?! I think it’s a great initiative but it needs to be slimmed down a bit and not written in such ‘policy’ language if it is really going to engage with the public at all.
Comments? -
Most of the questions are optional (and marked as such) so you only need to answer the ones that you find relevant to you.

I just did the online questionair following the link Ruth posted.
As I only had 12 questions I am a little worried I didn’t respond to the same one Ben did.
Though the questions are a bit policy speak, I didn’t find it to be a problem – I read a lot of policy documents and though on a whole it was pretty easy going compared to many targetted at non policy audience. I am a bit worried the questions are too braod to generate any really evidance but i still think it was worth doing.
I will be interested in seeing the final report.

Thanks for doing the UKRC questionnaire, Branwen.
We are separate from government, and drew up our own shortlist of questions, adapting them from the DIUS document to provide a focus on issues of gender equality. We are drawing on the responses to the UKRC questionnaire, the events we’ve run and other resources as we make our submission to DIUS. If you want to feed straight into DIUS, you need to respond to them direct (deadline 17 October) http://interactive.dius.gov.uk/scienceandsociety/site/The UKRC questionnaire has now closed, to give us time to prepare our submission (which will be available on our website).
