transience: Enormous advances in science led to compartmentalization of knowledge into specializations and super specializations so much so that a specialist in one area refuses to look into the other area. Interdisciplinary research is mainly in the applied areas. On the other hand some scientists are enthusiastically exploring less treaded paths.
Plant neurobiology and plant intelligence are the areas that are now being rediscovered. Consciousness is yet another area that is making its way into science from religion. How many of us know that the subject of Human Thermodynamics is being explored though by a small group as of now? The area of Epigenetics is expanding. What caused Human evolution? Can random [generally explained as accidental] causes result into the formation of a highly ordered / programmed systems as complex as Human beings? Are the concepts of Statistical Process Control that deals with the random/nonrandom variations applicable to the process of natural selection? What causes the evolution of organized societies? Are poverty less, civil Human societies viable? These are some of the questions that demand answers from the thinking man. Psychology the very subject that studies the thinking of the man is still being considered as soft science.
Natural Selection the mechanism of 1 random production of variant types and 2 the survival of the fittest can be demonstrated in the case of phage resistance of bacteria. However at molecular level there may be an additional step recombination as is noted in the test tube experiments with short RNA sequences in a slurry of simpler RNA building blocks. If only the fittest can survive then the evolution of society or cooperative living is not possible unless an additional feature altruism is simultaneously operative. Otherwise the society will be self destructive.
Looking at the page on genopsych at wikiversity I suggested that a printed volume on “The Philosophy of Evolution” be published as a prelude to an International Transcience Conference -2010. The proposed volume will contain only invited articles.
The following topics are of importance. 1. self ordering and evolution, 2.Plant intelligence, plant neurobiology and Plant signals, 3.genopsych, 4. structure/organization of genome and measurement of genomic information, 5. thermodynamics and evolution with special reference to Human thermodynamics, 6. the evolution of society with special reference to the human society, 7. 0rigin and evolution of consciousness, 8. bio-rhythms and evolution, 9. consciousness from the points of view of Jain, Buddhist, Christian and Hindu philosophies.
Final version of the articles may be readied before the end of July. The invitees may send the abstracts and draft versions of their articles now. Style of the articles may be as in the journals nature / current science. May see this link: http://www.ias.ac.in/currsci/oct252003/1148.pdf .
In the mean time I started transcience forum: http://network.nature.com/groups/transcience/forum/topics
So that all interested may interact and follow the progress, post the abstracts, news, and participate in the discussions.
The aim of this effort is not to prove or disprove any theory but to explore trans disciplinary areas of science.
Any suggestions/proposals for the forthcoming conference are welcome and may be sent to: transciencesociety@gmail.com
