I’m thinking of going to the opening on October 8th. Does anyone want to come along with me? It’s at York University.

    • Sounds like fun. I also have some friends at York… I’ll see if they know about it. (I have to admit, I couldn’t really figure out, from the blurb, where at York this is happening…) Anyway, I hope I’ll be adequately caught up with work to be able to go. :)

    • Those two galleries, I guess? I will look for an address or two closer to October.

    • There is also an afternoon of lectures related to this, and that is TOMORROW. I’m going. It’s at 4 PM (Lecture Hall A, Vari Hall, York University), but I’ll try to be at York even before that. Anyone else interested in going?

“Wednesday September 30 at 4 p.m., The Art Meets Science Series will host a set of Plenary Lectures to bring together three scholars whose work demonstrates the transformative potential of collaborations among artists and scientists. In addition to a member of York’s own faculty, the lectures will welcome two internationally recognized scholars. These speakers’ own experiences show how working at the intersection of art and science can transform ways of seeing and working in both realms. "

More info at the web page

The galleries that have the art exhibits later in October are also both on the main campus of York (up at Steeles/Keele).

    • Went to the lectures this week (blog post forthcoming).

For the gallery opening, the plan is to go on October 8. The galleries are very close together on the York Campus, so we can go to the opening at both locations on the same night.

I’m taking the subway from Spadina (northbound platform) at 3PM, and then the bus 196 (“York University Rocket”) from Downsview station straight to York. The bus makes several stops at York. You’ll want to wait to get off as long as possible. The bus goes into a loop, and where it stops in front of the bookstore (“Commons”) is where you get off. The gallery is right across on the other side of that open park-like area.

The whole trip takes about an hour from Spadina station.

If anyone wants to meet up at Spadina at 2:45 (upstairs at the main entrance – there’s no cell phone reception downstairs!) or at Downsview (where the buses stop) at 3:30, let me know and I’ll give you my cell phone number.

I’ve also e-mailed some people personally about this event. Drop me a line if you want to be included in that conversation.
