Thanks everyone for coming to the panel discussion and pub night on Sunday!
We had 19 people at Fionn MacCool’s. The pub provided us with a room where we could turn off the music and chat about Science 2.0

Jen moderated the discussion between Timo Hannay , Michael Nielsen , and Cameron Neylon .
Several audience members heard about science 2.0 and open science for the first time, and people asked lots of questions. I think everyone learned something that night. Learning on a Sunday night in a pub, who would have thought!

Timo talked about the things Nature does with regards to science and the internet. Nature’s most successful effort in that direction has been the Nature podcast and one of the least successful has been the concept of having people comment on papers as part of the peer-review process (which led to a discussion about why people don’t participate in things like that). Cameron explained the concept of open notebook science, which was a new concept to many people in the audience (link to Open Wetware ). Michael talked about some of the things in his upcoming book about the Future of Science (link to a related blog post on his blog ).

Many people stayed late, talking long after the discussion ended.
I took a bunch of photos which I’ll upload later are here and a few are below:
