Just jobs?

Hi, I was just wondering – is the Source Event just for networking to do with careers? I’m actually more interested in looking for [mainly industry-based] PhD opportunities right now.

Thanks!

    • Looking at the program, I am also wondering whats actually going to happen on the day of the source event. If I am going to just listening lectures then I am not sure I want to do that for full day.

A lot depends whats will be organized outside the seminars..

      Organizers some clarification please
      -Manish

    • Hi Manish,

We don’t expect people to stay for the full day especially as the talks won’t be relevant to everyone.

We wanted to make the event very flexible for job seekers. If I were in your shoe’s I’d take a look at the talks and decide which one’s I’d want to listen to and turn up around that time. The exhibitors will be around all day and you’re more likely to spend some quality time talking to them during the less busy periods which are likely to be when the talks (you’re not too interested in)are on, the coffee breaks and lunch times I would expect to be busy.

Also make sure to bring a few copies of your CV along if you are currently looking for a job.

I look forward to seeing you on the day.

    • Hi Andrew,

Is it necessary to register in advance to attend the seminars we are interested in?

      Thank you four answer

      Karine

    • Hi Karine,

You should be getting a mail from our events team (if you haven’t already) asking which sessions you are looking to attend. This isn’t a registration but it allows us to make sure the larger rooms get the more popular sessions.

It’s first come, first served for the talks so I’d get there early for the one’s you want to hear. The main lecture hall holds 450 and I think we’ll be very lucky to fill it but you never know who will turn up. The smaller halls host around 100.

      Thanks

      Andy

    • Hi,
From your comments I have understood that although we registered which sessions we would like to attend, it is enough flexible to decide if we can miss some of them in order to have time to visit the stands, isn´t it?
      Lucía

    • Hi Lucia,

The day is as flexible as you want to make it. There will be a short break after each talk in order to move to other talks and there is an extended break in the afternoon and morning sessions plus a long(ish) lunchtime.

If, during the sessions there isn’t a talk which is of interest then you may choose to visit the exhibition instead as it’s likely to be less busy during that time.

I would recommend doing some research beforehand on the organisations you are looking to approach make a ‘hit list’ of exhibitors you definintely want to speak to. That way you can make sure you speak to the people you want to first and then target everyone else afterwards, there’s always the chance you may be too busy and miss someone otherwise.

      Hope this helps!

      See you Friday,

      Andy
