The preliminary conference programme for Science Online London is now available at the conference website. There will be 10 sessions covering a variety of topics, I hope you find most of them interesting.

Just had a quick squiz – looks great!
I think this has been covered before, but are there plans to video the sessions and upload them online?
-
Looks fantastic, can’t wait…
-
@Erika,
Yes, there are such plans !! See this thread

Looks great, Martin, I’m really looking forward to all of them. I especially like the title of “Cat Herding: The challenges and rewards of managing online scientific communities”!
@Erika: why would anyone want to watch the videos later when they could watch them in real time and get to quiz the speakers live from Second Life? ;-)
-
Joanna, watching the videos live in Second Life is of course the next best thing to actually going to the conference. But it would be nice for those on vacation at the end of August to be able to watch the sessions when they return.
-
Cool, thanks Martin! Now I just have to sort out where I’ll stay…
-
@Joanna – I was thinking of the sessions that I won’t be able to attend because I am attending another one (during the breakout sessions).
The fielding of questions from SL worked well at the Nature Darwin Debate at Kings Place earlier this year – do you expect to attract many virtual attendees?
-
Steffi, the people from the Royal Institution recommend the Grange Langham Court Hotel to their guests. I will stay at the Bermondsey Square Hotel.
-
@Erika – I really don’t know how many virtual attendees we’ll get; we’ve never charged entrance for an event before. Opinion is divided as to whether £10 is a trivial amount of money that wouldn’t put anyone off, or whether there is just an inbuilt resilience to paying for virtual services.
But, if ever there was an event which was perfect for this, it’s an online science conference, so I personally would take any more than 30 as a reasonable turnout and more than 50 a real success. I guess we’ll see!

I guess someone had to ask it at some point, so since no-one has thus far, I’ll ask.
Who’s gonna be in town the day after (Sunday 23rd) in person. There should be quite a few I guess. Does anyone want to commence ideas for a post event meet-up for those (like myself), still in town ?? Thoughts please.
