The conference website is up!
We hope that you can attend Science Online London 2009 on Saturday August 22 2009 at the Royal Institution. Save the date! Registration will open soon.
We are currently looking for ideas for sessions, speakers. Please post those ideas here or email topics@scienceonlinelondon.org by June 19.
We also need sponsors! If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring, please get in touch with me at c.lok at boston.nature.com.
Just to note a couple of things different with this year’s event:
- Name: we decided to change the name from Science Blogging London to Science Online London to reflect the changing programme—the topics at the conference won’t be limited to just blogging, but will include the variety of science-related activities happening online today.
- Sponsors/organizers: last year’s event was organized and sponsored primarily by Nature Network/Nature Publishing Group and the RI. This year, the conference is being organized by a group of individuals with a variety of affiliations: Matt Brown / Nature Network, Martin Fenner / Hannover Medical School, Richard P. Grant / F1000, Victor Henning / Mendeley, Corie Lok / Nature Network and Jan Reichelt / Mendeley. And it’s being co-hosted by Nature Network, Mendeley and the RI.

The presentations were uploaded to the Nature Network slideshare group (see the Science08 forum for the links), and live-blogged in the Science Online group at Friend Feed. I hope that both things will happen again this year. The talks were recorded as you say, Bob – if they were posted online I guess the information will be in the Science08 forum here on Nature Network.

@Bob and Maxine.
The recorded talks from last year are NOT (yet) online. I’ve previously emailed Corie to enquire about this, but haven’t heard back :-(

Sorry for the slow response regarding the videos for last year. For a variety of reasons, we’ve struggled technically to get them up. We’ve learned our lessons though and have more video-savvy people on our team so we will do a better job this year of recording and getting them up online.

Sadly, London is too far from San Francisco but I can’t wait to catch the videos. Good luck to all the organizers.

Sorry, in a rush – with respect to recent happenings, has someone already suggested a session on English libel law? There could even be two: one seminar-type session, maybe with one of the NPG lawyers, informing people what to look out for, and an open discussion?
-
I’m sure Jack of Kent can be persuaded to give a session on libel laws for science writers and bloggers
-
Sorry all – I should have posted my suggestion for a topic here.

In a slightly pathetic way to try and increase traffic to my blog you may be interested in the review of the Royal Institution’s restaurant – find the link here
