The conference website is up!
We hope that you can attend Science Online London 2009 on Saturday August 22 2009 at the Royal Institution. Save the date! Registration will open soon.
We are currently looking for ideas for sessions, speakers. Please post those ideas here or email topics@scienceonlinelondon.org by June 19.
We also need sponsors! If you or your organization is interested in sponsoring, please get in touch with me at c.lok at boston.nature.com.
Just to note a couple of things different with this year’s event:
- Name: we decided to change the name from Science Blogging London to Science Online London to reflect the changing programme—the topics at the conference won’t be limited to just blogging, but will include the variety of science-related activities happening online today.
- Sponsors/organizers: last year’s event was organized and sponsored primarily by Nature Network/Nature Publishing Group and the RI. This year, the conference is being organized by a group of individuals with a variety of affiliations: Matt Brown / Nature Network, Martin Fenner / Hannover Medical School, Richard P. Grant / F1000, Victor Henning / Mendeley, Corie Lok / Nature Network and Jan Reichelt / Mendeley. And it’s being co-hosted by Nature Network, Mendeley and the RI.

I totally loved Science Blogging last year (I still wear the t-shirt)… But sadly I’ll be on my honeymoon on 22 August this year! Hope it goes well!
-
‘sadly’ and ‘honeymoon’??
(congrats!)
-
Dommage. Je serais en France Profonde avec les autres Gees.
-
Thanks Richard! You’re right – ‘sadly’ is probably not the best word… Hope my fiancee didn’t read it…

I missed it last year, and I will miss it this year because I am going to Croatia with my family.

Pity that it falls bang in the middle of the (school) holiday season. I suppose lots of non-parents will be able to go. I am not sure what I am doing yet but I hope I can attend. I expect, knowing my luck, that by the time I know for sure, all the tickets will be gone. (Incidentally, £10 seems very cheap. Yesterday I tried to book for a west end show of a “regular play” (ie no celebs or music in it) and the seats were £65. Each.)

Picking the right date for a conference is always tricky. The idea was to have the meeting at about the same time as last year (end of August or early September). August 22 was the only date where there was no UK or US holiday on the following Monday and where the Royal Institution was available.

… and Corie wasn’t either getting married or going on honeymoon.
-
is there a way to have the presentations recorded somehow and uploaded? Maybe through some sort of webinar software, like Pete Binfield did recently.
-
The talks were recorded last year, but I can’t remember seeing them posted. Probably my bad memory, though.
