David Crotty, Executive Editor of CSH Protocols writes a blog post in response to a newspaper article about the importance of creating a digital identity. The post is here. David discusses the importance (or not) of creating a digital “personality” for scientists. There are pluses but definite perils to having a presence on the web, including scooping and, though chatting on services like Twitter and FriendFeed [and, my addition, Nature Network?!] is pleasant and sometimes useful, opportunities for time-wasting. David also mentions ethical issues with, for example, blogging at conferences. A nice, controversial post.
