What if journal contents were tag clouds? (from Neil Saunders)

Over at What You’re Doing Is Rather Desperate, Neil Saunders used Wordle to generate tag clouds of the most recent issue of popular journals using their RSS feeds. The results are much prettier than one’s standard table of contents:

For each journal, Saunders looks at whether one can determine what the issue’s focus is with just a glance. The image above is generated from Genome Biology. Saunders muses: “I’d guess that this is a special issue on genes controlling circadian rhythm in Drosophila. An excellent summary graphic.”

This is pretty cool!
I can’t get it to work very well though :( I tried sticking the RSS feed for Nature Clinical Practice Cardiovascular Medicine AOP articles in Wordle to see if I could anticipate what topics are likely to be on the agenda for cardiology in the next couple of months. My graphic was skewed by doi’s and author names though, so I’ll have to play with it a bit I think.
