It’s the World Conference of Science Journalists in London next week! Is anyone from Nature Network attending? And which sessions will you be at so I can say hello?

Philip Campbell, Editor in Chief of Nature, will e there and I am sure he would be delighted to meet you and any other Nature Networkers present at the conference. (And check out 25 June Nature, we have some fab articles on science journalism, most of them free to access for a couple of weeks, to celebrate the WCSJ).

Yes, I am going. I suspect it will be a bit overwhelming.

I should have mentioned in my comment above but was tired and flaking out – there is a Nature Network opinion forum post about the Nature articles. Please check it out for a summary of and links to the various articles (which I think are very stimulating!) and do let us know your views. We (the Nature editors) will be considering the contributions to the forum as potential Correspondences (letters to the Editor) in Nature.

Matt Brown is organising a Nature Network meet up on the evening of 30 June. I hope to go to that. From his post, it seems as if one or two people will be at WCSJ and will be going along to the drinks afterwards – hope anyone reading this post and discussion can come too.
Matt’s invitation with details. -
Hi,
I am producing a session at the WCSJ on Wednesday 1st July – “Science on TV: Here today, gone tomorrow?”
This may be of particular interest to you, Angela, and for anyone else, we have some great panellists who will be discussing the future of science television. The session is 11:30 – 13:30 (see programme for full details).
Do also have a look at the promo video for the event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxLOKVqcNUQ

Here is a working link! WCSJ video

Liz, what an excellent video! I will try and come to your session – Although, I have to say, science on TV is getting better… have you noticed how The One Show on BBC1 has had loads of science items recently?
-
It’s refreshing to hear that – a lot of criticism gets aimed at science on TV nowadays, particularly with people bemoaning the loss of Tomorrow’s World and taking pops at Horizon.
I’m a bit biased about the ONE Show – Tigress make the natural history inserts, and we have recently been making the biomimetics strand with Miranda and Mike – so I think they’re brilliant! The ONE Show is definitely a lot better than people give it credit for.
Glad you like the video – we were very lucky with the beautiful sunshine in London!

Dear Angela,
I would like to see more of the subject and to talk, but time is pressing and I’m at a great distance, perhaps for another occasion. Best, Alejandro.

I’ll be there Angela, along with a couple of other colleagues from the Wellcome Trust. To be honest, I can’t remember what sessions I’m signed up to though — will have to double check when I get back to the office.
