Amazon withdraws scientology book

This seems a pity. From the Bookseller blog:
‘Amazon UK has barred the sale of a new Scientology exposé penned by a former member of the church’s “elite paramilitary group”.
According to The Register, the online retailer is no longer offering The Complex: An Insider Exposes the Covert World of the Church of Scientology by John Duignan, who spent 22 years inside the secret organisation.
In a recent post to an anti-Scientology discussion forum, an anonymous Brit says that after pre-ordering the book, he received an email from Amazon announcing it had been “removed from sale for legal reasons”.’

This looks quite interesting – a comparative study of four charismatic leaders – and includes one L Ron Hubbard.
Thanks again, Larry – and everyone else. This discussion has provided much food for thought!

Ironic and possibly once again shockingly, The Guardian looks as if it has been nobbled on this topic. I saw an article there in my RSS reader with the title How scientologists pressure publishers, but when I clicked through, no article was there. Looks to me as if somebody has made them take it down. I wonder who.

Try this link for that article.

Thanks, Dave – I wonder what happened to the first article – the link in my RSS reader is still dead. Anyway, now that I can actually read the Guardian piece, it is about exactly the same case as this one, so those interested might like to read it.
