This group has been set up for authors of science books and those who write for science magazines. Though others are welcome to join, I would like to keep the discussion focussed on science writing.

Hi Brian, thanks for setting this group up. Can we invite online writers as well? We are a website after all! I think I might ask some Boston-based writers to join.

Absolutely – I’ve changed the original description to include those involved in newspapers and websites: there was no intention to exclude some of the writing community!

Brian: I’ve just joined the group. I write textbooks (chemistry) and books about science such as a book about metaphors in science and most recently a book on the authority and moral authority of science in society. I addition, I do work on articles for journals that deal with science and society, or some philosophical aspects of science. I hope to do more with blogs; learning from them and, I hope, writing on them.

Hi, I’ve joined the group as I’m interested in expanding my science writing experience beyond the remit of my day job (which is science writing within a medical communications company).

Hi,
I’m an American science writer, who’s been freelancing from overseas for science magazines for umpteen years, and currently writing a book about endangered species, to be published by an imprint of Random House. You can see samples of my freelance writing at my website .
I now work in an office at CERN, as the full-time editor of a weekly newsletter called International Science Grid This Week, devoted to distributed computing. First full-time gig in a long, long time!
And though I’m the one saying it, I honestly think ISGTW has some decent stuff for story leads, sort of like a “Science News” for computing — which, of course, I can’t pursue as a freelancer because that would be a conflict of interest. (Sigh) Am I the only one who worries about the ethics of double-dipping?
