If anyone is writing special content for Darwin Day, we are putting up a page with links to every event we can find. Darwin Day 2009
We don’t ordinarily dress up in Darwin costumes or anything like that for the birthday, but since it is the bicentennial we probably will.
Maybe I’ll get a beagle before then too.

PS Hank, It’s the same tag and the same site. Yes, that’s why I posted the link, so that people contributing here and planning to write something could see the tag, and any parallel discussion going on over there.

“Nature Geoscience 2, 81; 2009.”
Are they going to make it open access before the 12th? I don’t want to make the audience mad by posting a link they can’t actually read.

Darwin Day is less than a week away and a lot of groups are doing individual things but, realistically, Darwin’s birthday is the one sure time when people will pay attention and, as studies show, acceptance of evolution is actually decreasing in parts of Europe and N America.
So we need even more participation because it’s crucial for science.
To try and motivate people who otherwise might not be as motivated, we’re going to kick over a set of The Life And Letters of Charles Darwin from 1887, which includes an autobiographical chapter by Sir Charles and was edited by his son.
Obviously this is site agnostic so anyone who participates has a shot at it. If we get the 5 largest sites to compound promotion of Darwin Day (everyone is already doing individual events) it will make a huge difference.
If all the science communities out there kick it in gear and get people excited, we can really make some great strides in getting people talking about evolution. So link to each other, people.

I missed this discussion at the time… At UKRC we had the great honour of having Emma Darwin (deceased) post a guest entry for us and then responding to comments from the living (including Emma Darwin) and dead (Huxley and Wallace).
