If anyone is writing special content for Darwin Day, we are putting up a page with links to every event we can find. Darwin Day 2009
We don’t ordinarily dress up in Darwin costumes or anything like that for the birthday, but since it is the bicentennial we probably will.
Maybe I’ll get a beagle before then too.

I’m unclear how this works, since it says I posted a notice but I thought I was just posting something for people in the group to see. So let me know if I did it wrong.

See my Nautilus post Nature celebrates Darwin and his work for some of the many things Nature is doing.

Here’s something for bloggers: it’s called Blogging for Darwin. The basic idea is that bloggers write some post about Darwin between feb 12-15th, and it’s a really big carnival of sorts of all those posts. I suggest anyone with a passion for Darwin and a blog check it out…

I am planning An Ode in the Pindaric Manner to celebrate the Anniversary of the Great Man. Be afraid.

Henry, that is definitely going up as a link! (when you get it ready)
Christie, I’ll put a link on scientificblogging as well and if you know people at scienceblogs, discovery, etc. they are likely all doing things as well so let them know.

See also this post about Blogging for Darwin by Bob O’Hara in the Nature Network Bloggers’ forum. Some discussion there, including a tag suggestion for aggregation purposes.

It’s the same tag and the same site.

Does it need to be a new post? I have a post about Robert Fitzroy that I wrote back in 2007 that I could rerun.

It’s just links to events and articles in the spirit of community, so sure. Darwin was born 200 years ago, you think he will mind that you didn’t write an article this week?? :)

There is a nice editorial in the new Nature Geoscience (Feb 09), called Darwin’s geology. “The Charles Darwin bicentennial celebrates the man who recognized natural selection and changed the world’s views on evolution. However, his contributions to geology should not be overlooked.”
Nature Geoscience 2, 81; 2009.
