Thesis Writers Block!

Hey All,

Do you find it hard to write? I have often struggled with this.

Don’t get me wrong. I write fantastic letters, love letters and have a good vocab to brag about. But when it comes to writing a technical paper, ouch! I try to ‘monkey’ the language from other tech papers..and I become overly judgmental.

Heres a convo between me and my colleague recently:

Me:‘Why is writing so hard, even when I get so happy after I put my thoughts on paper?’
Her: ‘Its like giving birth…Its hard, but when its done, it feels good’
Wanna go at it again?

Reply with any comments/tips/ experiences please!

    • The cult of most researchers over the globe undergo writer’s block from the time of paper publication to thesis writing. In simple words, writing a technical paper comprising of abstract and the main content is synonym to poetry and prose respectively. Paper is a prose with thousand words with tables, charts, figures and references and the abstract is short and simple like a poetry.

Extrapolating this concept to thesis writing, it is similar to authoring a novel with sequential flow of prose and poetry. To culminate prose and poetry is a task in itself.

To avoid the block in writing a technical paper, one needs to add evocative, memorable phrases in a sequential flow. It is not only about grammar, but comprehension skill that comes into play. Placing complex ideas in the simplest manner is the prime facet. The most renowned scientists often give stimulating lectures comprising mainly of logical and simply stated concepts and theories.
