    • Hi everyone!
Amit, I wanted to thank you for this post. I’m so impressed at the diversity of this group and hope to learn more about you in these forums.

I’m a graduate student at Johns Hopkins working on cancer epigenetics. Why I’m doing a PhD is a very good question and something I think about almost everyday. Besides the loads of money I’ll make in the future (snicker) I think I’m getting my PhD because science really does interest me, even if bench work may not. I think I’m really interested in communicating and demystifying science to the general public. Any suggestions for a future career, I’m all years.

      Nice to meet everyone!

    • Thanks Eriko,
Good to see you.. Are you in Medical School..?

    • I’m studying on the medical school campus, but just going for my PhD.

    • Hi Everybody!

I’m Andres, from Universidad de Antioquia, Colombia. Actually I’m looking for PhD so maybe I can’t answer the questions, but I want to learn from your experiences. My work is basically in Systems Biology but it is clear that I need depth knowledge in this field and in fact it has been my dream to get more understanding of the cell behaviour and therefore the life itself.

I want to ask a favour to all of you. This site How to Apply for a PhD in the US is a wiki document about how to apply. If you can add some relevant information, I would appreciate enormously

      Bye

    • Hello,

I am starting my masters program at the University of Northern Iowa in August. My major is German studies, but I would like to do gender linguistics research and possibly cognitive science.

I come from Russia, and I’ve created a specific group here for Russians worldwide and to discuss local events. It’s http://network.nature.com/group/russia

      Nice to meet you all

    • Hi all. I am Devendra, I am a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Univ of Maryland working on Micro and Nano-mechanics of hard tissues.
Why PhD? coz I want to contribute to the existing science and I have always been interested in understanding nature from an engineering perspective.

    • Hi,
My name is Laura. I am from Venezuela, I am on my first year of my PhD at the Department of Gastroenterology at Herlev Hospital in Denmark. I am investigating monocyte gene expression in relation to Crohn’s disease.
I wanted to do a PhD because it was an opportunity to follow up on the research I had done during my Master’s degree and will open the doors into Academia.

    • Hi Everyone.

I’m Nuruddeen. I’m a PhD student at Vanderbilt University in the U.S. I’m in the department of Cancer Biology, but my research is more Microbiology/Immunology. I’m doing my PhD because I really want to study science in-depth. Hopefully, God willing, this in-depth study of science will lead to some cures for diseases.

      Great to meet you all.
