I am Aswin from Chennai, India
I am doing a PhD in bacterial ‘functional’ genomics / computational biology at the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute and University of Cambridge, UK. My background is a Bachelor of Technology (2005) in Biotechnology from Anna University, Chennai, India. During my UG I worked mostly on MD simulations of proteins (lipase) and small peptides.
Why am I doing a PhD? I am committed to doing academic research into bacteria (and eukaryotic at some later stage) pathogens. Because, in a way, I love bacteria and pathogens. At some point, as an independent investigator, I would look to combine genomic and molecular biological techniques towars understanding host-bacterial interactions.

Hello
I am getting my PhD in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, focusing on developmental neuropathology (neonatal stroke) at the Medical University of South Carolina, US. Why? I was working in a biotech company and couldn’t move up in the company to a position I wanted without a PhD in the biomedical sciences. I am almost done with my PhD and am not interested in doing academic science anymore. I am becoming more and more interested in scientifc editing/journalism or marketing/admin in a biotech company. -
Hi, I’m Michael.
I’m a D.Sc. student of Kyoto University. I’m doing a research on spintronics. I study magnetic-field-induced metal-insulator transition in non-magnetic semiconductors. But I also study spin-dependent tranport in ferromagnetic nanoparticles.
I went in to the program because I need it to pursue an academic career and teach in a university…

Hi everyone I am Junyu Xiao from China. I am doing PhD in Department of Biochemistry in University of Michigan, USA. I work in a crystallography group and right now we are studying the structure and function of two proteins involved in the protein trafficking process in the multi-vesicular body pathway.
Why PhD? It is indeed a big question…Crystallography really intrigued me at the beginning…But right now I have to think what more I can do with this tool.

hi
i am venkat doing PhD Biochemisrty in University of Hyderabad.
i am interested in immunology and proteomics -
Hi everybody,
I am srinivas doing PhD in Cancer Genetics at Lund university hospital. -
Greetings,
My research is on modelling vapour-liquid phase transitions using numerical methods. I’m studying at RMIT University in Melbourne, under A.Prof Peter Daivis.
Why – I love research, reading and inquiry. I can think of anything I’d rather do than make my contribution to the process of scientific discovery.

Hello to you all.
I am a second year PhD student studying the phylogeography, conservation and population genetics of Arctic char and Brown trout in Ireland.
This is at Queens University of Belfast under the supervision of Dr P. Prodohl.
I am interested in helping to preserve the biodiversity of Ireland as it is an island and therefore special. I like the topic of phylogeography as it encompasses the topics of paleontology, genetics, zoology, ecology and evolution, all of which I enjoy. I also wish to continue in research for the rest of my academic career and teach at a university somewhere.
Thanks for reading this. -
