Hi,
Great to know about all of you! I am a Ph.D. candidate at UC Santa Barbara in the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department. My research is on genetic pathways in model system C. elegans.
My big picture goal is to contribute to the understanding of cellular signaling and gene regulatory networks. I want to apply this knowledge to develop novel therapeutics and drug discovery.
Hope to know you all even better,
Regards,
Ashish -
Hi, my name is Gay from the Philippines. I am doing my PhD in molecular biology and biotechnology and my research is on host plant resistance. I study at the University of the Philippines Los Banos and conduct my research at the International Rice Research Institute. I am working on different candidate genes for quantitative resistance to rice blast, looking at genomic level and combining them to come up with resistant lines. I hope to identify rice lines with different candidate gene combinations showing resistance to rice blast and with good agronomic traits. In the future, these can be released as rice varieties for cultivation.

Hello, I am a phd candidate at the Czech Agriculture University, my field of study is biology of reproduction. I am actually working on my thesis at the University of Tennessee.
I like my work, sometimes I enjoy being creative. I guess this is the reason why I study.Marta

Hi, I’m David and I’ve recently started a PhD in Cambridge University, UK. I’m working in the Watt lab at the Wellcome Trust centre for stem cell research and my interest is in skin stem cells.
My project is currently based on examining the gene expression profiles of stem cells and their direct progeny to better understand the concept of ‘stemness’. I’m also interested in markers for cancer stem cells in the skin.
It’s great to find this website and to be part of this network!

Hi,
I’m Emmanuel Teryila Tyokumbur.
My PhD research is in assessment

Hi, I’m the first geologist in the group, yay! I’m excited to see people here from all over the world… should be good.
My name’s Herdis, I’m studying geochemistry and geomorphology at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY… but I am from Iceland. I work in Hawaii and the Philippines investigating the effect of chemical weathering of volcanic rocks on the global CO2 cycle.
Why a Ph.D.? Well, because I love geology and want to do research for a living.

HI kannan, Marta, David, Emmanuel and Herdis,
Good to see you all.. Indeed exciting PhD topics..
Enjoy your stay..

Hey, I’m Jamie. Just coming to the end of my final year of a psychology phd, so am writing my thesis at the moment. Specialise in the impact of domiance and pubertal timing on adult human male behaviour, appearance and hormones.
Why am I doing it? You know, I have been wondering that a lot recently. I did it to begin with because I loved the subject and was looking forward to getting in to research properly. Lost my enthusiasm last year, but it’s steadily coming back. I’m in to science, I like studying human mating stuff. It’s all good.
Oh, I’m in St Andrews.
