Has anyone tried using WizFolio Web 2.0 journal reference management software? Appreciate if you will share your experience.

I am surprised of the user friendliness of Wizfolio, especially when you compared it to Refworks (last time when I tried to learn Refworks, I took like one whole day to learn its basic features). I like the way everything is organized into folder structure which makes things easier to manage.
The feature in which we can copy and past reference list is extremely useful. Besides, I just notice that after you upload a pdf file, Wizfolio will automatically grab bibliographic data (like author, title, etc) and put everything in order. Wow.
I haven’t have time to try its cite-as-you-write tool yet. Have anyone tried it? Is it easy to use?

I just registered for an account. This is my initial impression on the reference manager.
The user interface is just like email client with three panels: folder panel, list panel, and preview panel. I also realized that you can drag and drop references into folders.
Having done a lot of literature search, I would like to say that the bookmarklet that wizfolio has is very useful for data mining. It supports many major databases, some of which (Science Direct, Scopus, …) are not supported by Endnote or Refworks.
It seems like the “copy from clipboard” and grabbing bilbio from pdf file is only available for life science references. They are really useful and I hope that the developers will extend support to other fields.

@Sandra:
No wonder the two features didn’t work for me.I just tried WizCite. It is easy to use but too bad not many citation styles are suppported. However you can easily customize the styles to whatever styles you want. Beside that, the citation tool has all other common features.
I hope that WizFolio developers will offer users an option to work offline, at least for the citation tool.

I just started to play around with Wizfolio and thought it was pretty easy to use.
THEN I tried to import my Endnote library and it does NOT work. I am able to click on the “Import from RIS file” icon, I select my RIS file and ……. nothing happens. After a while I try to repeat above steps and now I can’t click on the icon anymore. I have to logout and login to get it live again. Repeated that now 3x and never worked. Anyone else tried this and got it to work?

Three possible reasons why this may not be working for you are:
1. Do you have Adobe Flash installed on your computer? You will need Adobe Flash Player 9.0 to upload your RIS File.
2. Are you using Firefox Version 2? Firefox version 2 has been known to cause problems with the Flash File Uploader. Hitting the refresh button will alleviate the problem. However to prevent this problem from reoccurring, I would advise you to use Firefox Version 3.0 or Internet Explorer 7.0.
3. Did you export your Endnote library in ENL format? Currently WizFolio supports the RIS Format only. To export your Endnote library in RIS Format:
- In Endnote, go to “Reference” Menu and click “Show All References”.
- Under “File” menu, click on “Export”.
- Type in a file name and save the file as “.txt”.
- Under “Output style”, click on “select Another style”.
- Wait for a pop out window to appear. In the “Choose a Style” window, search for Refman (RIS) Export.
- Click save.
- Now login to your WizFolio account and select “Import from RIS File”.
If the above still does not work, please email me at techsupport@wizfolio.com.

@Kerstin
I accessed the feature through right click menu and it works perfectly fine. Just right click on any folder and click the import from RIS option.Yap clicking on the icon doesn’t work, at least for my Firefox 2.

I am using Firefox 3. The import icon works normally.

Thank you all for replying.
Ian, first I tried your way and was quite happy since I got the “your references have been successfully imported” message. However, still 0 references in my folder.
Then I started on Victors long list. Checked my flash player and updated to version 9. Reexported the database in the way described. Still didn’t work.
Last resort: Upgrade Firefox. So, I installed Firefox 3. Now the icon on top works just fine, I also get the successful import message. But still no references in my folder. So, I am kind a puzzled on how to go from here.
Victor, I will write you an email shortly maybe you have something else that might work.
I will keep everybody updated on my progress. And thanks again.

Google Chrome is released today and WizFolio now supports Google Chrome.

Just installed google chrome. I like the way application shortcut works and wizfolio looks very nice in it, just like another desktop application.
Anyway, when’s wizfolio going to push out an offline version? victor? Maybe you can leverage on chrome’s ability to support offline web application.
