What happened to the nyc happy hours???
I know that you have been asking that above question over and over again, anticipating the next nyc event with bated breath.
To partially explain the radio silence, I have been in transition (I am now at Nature) was traveling a bunch, but am solidly back in the city and missing the nyc science crew.
Now, I have to admit that the last happy hour produced a disappointing turnout, when compared to the expectation-crushing first and second events. I know that we can do better this time around.
NEXT EVENT on Thursday, Sept. 4 @19:00, M1-5 bar in TriBeCa. It is located here, as equidistant as one can get from the 1,2, A,C,E, N,Q,R,W, 4,6, and even the much beloved J,M,Z.
I talked to the owner and we should have plenty of space. Happy hour pricing is in effect from 16:00-20:00, so although I suggested 19:00 as a start time (just so I wouldn’t get yelled at for making it too early, like the first time), I suggest coming even earlier if you’d like. I promised him a good showing, and he promised me free entry to an event that is going on later in the evening at the bar (22:00 start time) . Although I don’t have all of the details, it involves a lot of people, fun and a DJ. Tickets at the door were going to be somewhere around $10-20, but if I give him names, those people will get on the “list” to get in free.
So, since it’s been a while, let’s have a roll call and see how many people we can get to come out to this event. When you signal your attendance by commenting, please let me know if you want to be on the list to get into the party later for free (plus number of guests, with guest names, if already known).
One final note, the nyc hub will be officially rolling out a little later than expected, probably within 2-3 months.

Hi Caryn, It’s hard to tell. A couple of the events definitely went on until after 22:00, but the last one ended a little after 21:00 or so. My guess is that there will still be some people around.

So we had our 4th nyc Happy hour last night. The smallest turnout yet, at 16-18 people, but still, it was a great group! A few of us stayed until 22:30 dancing to the bad music the DJ had to offer (think Rolling Stones or AC/DC set to a techno beat…)
Nonetheless, thanks to everyone who could make it and shame on all of you who could have come but stayed back in your labs!! Interestingly, only 3 people were repeat attendees, with the rest being new faces. And as usual, Columbia utterly dominated the scene. They travel so well!
We’ll organize another in early October and look for it to be around Union Square. See you soon.

I would have loved to have come to the last HH – but I think you had a low turnout because of the timing. A lot of people I know were interested but because of the Labor Day holiday (when they were away) they were unable to take the extra time to go to the HH. Count me in for next time, though!
