Average Blog Time, Etc.

I am fairly new to the blogging (exactly one month as of yesterday). Thus, I wanted to see everyone’s take on 2 things:

1. On average, how long does it take for you to complete a blog post? Right now I am at about 2 hours from start to finish. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy every minute of it. But is this the norm? I suspect I will get faster with time.

2. Do you blog on vacation? For many, blogging is lifestyle that blends work with pleasure. When I go on vacation I like to give all my electronic devices a rest (even my cell phone). However, as grow more and more attached to the NN, I think I may have a harder time spending a few days unconnected.

    • It depends on my ‘blogging mode’

      1. sharing links or microblogging
This costs just a few minutes, but I prefer FriendFeed and delicious for this, not my blog. BTW, Twitter is also quite popular for this.

      2. Summarizing interesting network posts
10 minutes, since this is mainly a copy and paste task with adding some comments.Though I use also more and more FriendFeed for this, since I can find things back and my network is doing the same.

      3. Extensive blog post (my usual blogging mode)
I think two hours is a good guess, which does not include the preparation time, like collecting links, text fragments, or even creating images. I have a low blogging rate of a few posts per month, so I am fine with spending several hours on it. I think the overall time requirements would not change, if I would write many short blog posts instead.

    • 1. Fish String. Piece. Long as.

      2. Yes

    • Setting posts to appear on schedule sounds a bit automated. Wouldn’t it ruin the spontaneous nature of blogging a little?

    • I think being a hub blogger is a bit more limited in the amount of silly blog posts allowed. I guess that is why I enjoy reading those pots on everyone else’s blogs so much!

      Thanks for your input everyone!

    • Katherine,

sometimes I have ideas for two or three blog posts at once, and would like to spread them out. I’ve also done a series and wanted them to appear at the same time on different days.

    • Richard – I’ve tried similar things on a different blogging platform and got very confused. Generally I’d forget that something was going to be posted and wonder what the comments were about! Of course, you are probably far more organize than me!
