ScienceOnline09 program is coming together nicely

UPDATE! Registration for ScienceOnline09 is now closed! The ~220 spots filled very quickly. Lots of NN folks will be there. Many drinks and social gatherings are sure to come. I will set up some sort of dinner/drink event – the only trouble will be deciding where to go! There are so many great spots around Research Triangle Park/Durham.

The program is shaping up very nicely. Henry Gee is heading a session alongside the managing editor of PLoS ONE:

Alternative careers: how to become a journal editor – moderated by Henry Gee (senior editor at Nature) and Peter Binfield (managing editor of PLoS ONE):
The leaky pipeline is a problem: many more people earn PhDs in science than there are tenure-track faculty positions. Alternative careers include government or corporate research, teaching, writing/journalism, etc. One attractive job for a young scientist is that of an editor of a scientific journal. But how do you become one? We’ll ask some editors for useful tips. Go here to discuss.

I will also be involved in a session (news to me – I guess I was volunteered!) on science blogging networks, moderated by some heavy hitters (and wonderfully lovely people):

Science blogging networks – what works, what does not? – moderated by Cameron Neylon and Deepak Singh, with assistance from Anna Kushnir (that’s me) and Erin Johnson (ScienceBlogs):
Several science blogging networks exist or are in the process of getting started. The best known are Scienceblogs.com, Nature Network, Discovery Network blogs and Scientificblogging.com. What are they doing right, what are they doing wrong? What are the pros and cons of being a part of such a network. What constitutes ‘success’?

If you volunteer or are are tapped to lead a session at the conference, post a comment here so we can all keep track. Very much looking forward to the event!
