Science Online 2009 is the new name for the North Carolina Science Blogging conference, organized by Bora Zivkovic, Abel Pharmboy and Anton Zuiker. The conference is held in Research Triangle Park in NC, and it is not to be missed. Registration for this year’s conference is now open on the conference’s wiki page.
From the conference website:
“ScienceOnline’09 is the third annual science blogging conference, to be held Jan. 16-18, 2009 at the Sigma Xi Center in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Please join us for this free three-day event to explore science on the Web. Our goal is to bring together scientists, bloggers, educators, students, journalists and others to discuss, demonstrate and debate online strategies and tools for promoting the public understanding of science.
Our conference addresses a variety of issues and perspectives on science communication, including science literacy, the popularization of science, science in classrooms and in homes, debunking pseudoscience, using blogs as tools for presenting scientific research, writing about science, and health and medicine."
Visit the conference wiki to register and suggest session topics. Beware, the conference filled up pretty quickly last year, so it’s best to register early.
I had the distinct pleasure of attending this event last year and loved every minute of it. I was, however, the only blogger representing Nature Network. I think it would be great if NN folks could come out and interact with all the other science bloggers out there, to share our experiences with the wonderful community we have built on NN, and to learn from the science communication and community building efforts of others. Last year, I learned an awful lot and had a great deal of fun (and the food was really good!). Hope to see many NN bloggers there!

Love to go… airfares are expensive though.

Why do you care, Richard? Won’t your university be paying for the jaunt anyway?
Not that I’m jealous, at all. Oh no.

Well, if I can persuade them, yes, but I feel I might be at the end of my luck…

I note that the current registration list includes evidence for the imperial expansion of the USA. I can see the recognition of the new states of Cambridge, Serbia, London, England and Ontario – and we were worried about Russian expansion in the Caucasus. We are manning the barricades in Manchester.

Move over Brian and pass the mushy peas.

Oh, it’s not the imperial expansion of the USA, it’s the the imperial expansion of the Scienceblogs.com – The Borg is taking over the world hahahahahahaha!
