Live Blogging

I thought I would cross-post something Martin added to the Science Blogging Conference forum about blogging through the upcoming conference in London. I would like to expand a little on his thoughts here.
There are many bloggers who happily live-blog their way through conferences. I am trying to clarify for myself, and perhaps for others, the basic principles of live blogging. Are there rules to follow? A specific format, perhaps? Does one live-blog to get across all the information that is being presented, in a journalistic-style? I would hope that there would be more reinterpretation during live-blogging, but listening, typing it out and interpreting the information at the same time seems intimidating. Has anyone had experience with this? If I figure this out, I might try for my maiden live-blog during the conference! Thanks in advance.

Anna, we also had an interesting discussion about liveblogging here, including a link to this tip sheet: Tips for Conference Bloggers.

Very helpful. Thanks Martin! I take it that you will be live-blogging at least one of the sessions (FrienFeeds?).

Micro-blogging works well for conference live blogging. One possibility is CoveritLive. Those of us currently at ISMB 2008 are using this FriendFeed room ; it’s working really well.
As for rules: stop worrying, there are none, this is the web :)

Anna, yes I will try to liveblog the FriendFeed session by Matt Wood.

I’ve not tried actual live blogging, but do similar in writing conference reviews as they happen with some minor editing afterwards. I’d definitely be interested to give it a try!
