Access to all editorials in Nature Materials, including our back catalogue, is now free to registered users of nature.com! This follows a similar decision taken at Nature some years ago, and more recently, by Nature Cell Biology.
Our August editorial is, perhaps appropriately, on open access publishing models.

Thanks for the thoughtful editorial. I always found the discussion of author-pays vs. subscriber pays too black and white. Interesting that you mention Connotea and Nature Network in this context, a connection I would not have made.

Thanks Martin. I am glad you like the piece. Indeed, the discussion on open access is sometimes conducted unnecessarily heated, and I think it makes sense to be a little bit pragmatic beyond the fundamental philosophical issues people often argue about.
