I have my GED and want to get an online degree. Are there any other requirements for my to start college online?

If you get a GED before 18, or even before 14 as your case may be, then that would be all the more reason to go to a real college. An online college degree or college online education isn’t for every one. Most individuals seek a online college degree because they have multiple priorities they need to manage.

First, I would reccommend see a counselor at a junior college that offers classes online. The classes online would be things like English, humanities, political science, history, to name a few. These are the classes that are requirements to get an AS or AA degree. I started this way, and started out going for a Natural Science AS. I have all but the math requirement done for the required classes, and half of the core science classes (meteorology, anthropology, Environmental Science). All these offered online from the junior college here.
I decided to press myself, and go for the higher education, that is a BS/BA (these would be much harder to find online classes), and my counselor added on more requirement classes for a transfer to a higher level college. Some I can do online…another year…then I will have the bulk of the core classes I have to attend the campus. Also, I will be trying to manage an internship of some kind, or work study in my chosen field (which has changed a little, but that is another story)
One thing I did that was invaluable, was to take a career counseling class (again online), and this gave me such a great sense of direction. I started writing to perspective employees asking what requirements they had to work for them, what they thought should be studied, and other stuff. So I have put feelers out already.
If you do find online classes, don’t think for a minute thay are easier. You have to be motivated to keep up, and it is time consuming. I spend more time in them then others who go to the same classes on campus. I also take my requirement classes very serious. They teach me critical reading and writing skills, and are there to round out my education. Every class is an opportunity for learning whether I like the subject matter, or don’t like it. I treat school like it is my job!
If you are weak in writing or math, take some classes to prep yourself. There are no shortcuts.
