Dear Friend,
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR, India) has announced Postdoctoral Fellowship (Research Associateship) to fresh PhD candidates to pursue research in their 27 research institutes. The fellowship will earn 35,000/- per month plus HRA. The candidate will get 3 lacks per annum contingency grant as well.

It seems after making highly earned postdoctoral fellowship by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), DBT and DST etc, it is the turn of ICMR to create such lucrative fellowships to check the efflux of Indians PhDs to USA/Europe for highly earned postdocs.
I wish the ongoing effort of making higher money fellowships by these scientific agencies in India will be a successful and revolutionary step…
Thanks

Though the salary rise is very dramatic, it is very unlikely the fresh PhDs would join ICMR just becoz of money. Most of the PhD students want to DO some good research as well – which is least expected in ICMR institutes. Take it lack of interest of PIs to instruments to adminitrative help, everything is highly breaurecratic. So, just money would not do any better than the present – for sure. First a upside down change in mentality – accountability and responsibility – for the tax payers money for both scientific and administrative staff is required (by what means, do not ask me!) followed by setting up institutional goals and standards is recommended, unfortunately which at the present state is next to impossible! Sorry, to put such a gloomy picture, but this is reality!
