I’ve been hearing a lot of things about a book called The Fourth Paradigm — Data-Intensive Scientific Discovery just published on October 16. It’s a series of essays, roughly grouped together by field, on topics such as the use of computing in health, the environment, scientific infrastructure, and scholarly communication. Some of the titles include “Parallelism and the Cloud” and “Multicore Computing and Scientific Discovery.”
All 287 pages are available for downloading; unfortunately, it crashed when I tried to download.
On a related note, the New York Times had a relevant article, under the title Training to Climb an Everest of Digital Data

I saw this advertised on the NGS blog last Friday. I’ve had a flick through and it seems to be a really good resource – it’s great that it’s freely available to download as well!

So, you’d recommend it to others?
