An interesting announcement just appeared today, involving the development of new graphics processing cards — which could have implications for distributed computing, such as the grid.

They can read and process information much like a CPU, which makes them a new way to calculate. At least one person tells me it could lead to a 10-fold increase in processing speed.
Could this be true?
What could it mean for distributed computing?
