NORTH INDIAN athletes are as likely to be world-class sprinters if it were just a matter of genes, according to a duo of geneticists at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow.

Biotechnology YES (Young Entrepreneurs Scheme)

Biotechnology YES (Young Entrepreneurs Scheme) is aimed at encouraging young postgraduate and doctoral students in developing biotechnology entrepreneurship and exposing them to issues involved in commercialization of bio-science.
1.2 The scheme is sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) & UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), UK Government.
YES is supported by The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), New Delhi, a worldwide not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship globally and Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprise (ABLE), the apex Biotechnology Industry Association of India.

India Turning Ocean Water Into Rain

India is using Low Temperature Thermal Desalination Technology to convert ocean Water into drinking water. This is world’s first low temperature thermal desalination plant started in 2005 which uses ocean’s temperature gradient to produce fresh water.
Recently Science published the success story of Kavaratti plant developed by National Institute of Ocean Technology, India.

The government is planning to set up more desalination plants with a capacity of 10 million litres/per day on all islands and coastal areas as an alternative source of fresh water.

Beaufort County School District is recruiting in India to help the shortage of math and science teachers. The school board approved in December an incentive plan to give incoming math, science and special education teachers a $3,000 signing bonus among other perks.
