Cure for deafness is nearing?

Color blindness corrected by gene therapy.

Could a similar approach be useful in curing some forms of deafness by directing the corrected gene to specific cells, such as inner hair cells. Most forms of deafness are originated by gene mutations and the gene therapy approach may be essential in correcting these defects.
